I am a consultant neonatal and paediatric surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital where I am the senior surgeon and specialty lead.
My main areas of interest are in gastrointestinal (bowel) surgery and treating children born with abnormalities of the abdominal wall, diaphragm and gastrointestinal tract. My particular areas of expertise are in oesophageal surgery, anti-reflux surgery and lower bowel surgery including children with ano-rectal anomalies, Hirschsprung’s disease and inflammatory bowel disease with many of the procedures being performed laparoscopically.
I am very active in training in my NHS practice. I am the current training programme director for the largest training consortium in paediatric surgery in the UK. I am the chairman of the British Association of Paediatric surgeons committee for consultant support and development.
I have published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and presented over seventy times to national and international conferences. I write legal reports for the GMC in the UK and Ireland and have written numerous reports for cases of potential clinical negligence in the field of paediatric general surgery.
