Dr Michael Rothburn is a Consultant Medical Microbiologist and Control of Infection Doctor at University Hospital Aintree, Liverpool and The Walton Centre Foundation Trust (Neurology and Neurosurgery), Liverpool.
Dr Rothburn qualified in Medicine at Leeds University and specialised in medical microbiology and infection control and is a Fellow of The Royal college of Pathologists. He has a wide experience of serious infections from both community and hospital. Dr Rothburn is a “hands on” microbiologist performing bedside reviews of hospital patients with a regular multidisciplinary antibiotic ward round.
In a long career he has had experience as a consultant medical microbiologist in neonatal infection, obstetrics & gynaecology and many other hospital specialties. His current role centres on neurosurgical infections including spinal infection.
Dr Rothburn is Deputy Director of Infection Prevention & Control and co-chair of the Infection Prevention & Control Committee at the Walton Centre. Dr Rothburn has wide medico-legal experience and has given evidence in Court on a number of occasions and has been an invited speaker at medico legal seminars.
