On 28 June 2013 Medico-Legal Management held their first Personal Injury Conference at the Radisson Blu Royal in Dublin. A busy and informative day flowed well thanks to the organisation of the Meetings and Events staff. John Quirke, Barrister, generously agreed to chair the event on behalf of Medico-Legal Management.
Following his welcome John gave a very informative talk on pre-trial protocols in medical negligence cases. Sarah Reid, Barrister from Four Courts spoke on emerging issues in clinical negligence, division of liability between medical practitioner and product manufacture which led to lots of interesting questions and an engaging discussion on PIP implants. Steven Young, Neurosurgeon and Mark Delargy gave excellent talks on brain injury and rehabilitation with insightful pointers to the audience to aid them in their cases. Dr Eddie Murphy covered on the neuropsychological impact of personal injury.
Professor Stephen Cusack gave his personal account of life in the A& E Department and examples of some of the catastrophic injuries seen which was thought provoking. Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Tony McGuiness gave an uplifting and lively talk on whiplash injury called “All aboard the whiplash train” and Garry Fenelon, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon gave examples of how patient’s expectations have changed over the last twenty five years.
Interesting discussions followed and lots of questions on delegates current cases were answered. We look forward to returning for our Clinical Negligence conference in May 2014.
