Our Birmingham conference was Chaired by Chris Bright QC of No5 Chambers who gave an excellent talk on litigating cerebral palsy. The medical speakers were outstanding and their talks full of insightful medical knowledge on how negligence can occur. Clinical scenarios were discussed and lots of questions asked by the delegates. The conference covered a lot of ground; bile duct injury during cholecystectomy, medico-legal issues in anaesthesia, ambulance service negligence, cauda equine syndrome and CTG in labour and examples which have led to cerebral palsy and intrapatrum death. The delegates were then asked to interpret the traces and discuss the findings. We will be returning to Birmingham in February 2014 for a day of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
